A tale of two halves.
The serving staff were great but the food , it was truly disgusting.
Initially the pie of the day was very cold and looked appalling.
Swapped for a gammon steak.
The steak was very fatty and super oily, to the point where the plate was swimming in it.
I’ve no idea how you make chips freezing cold but they managed it.
Had a bit of gammon and gave up.
This was on a works trip, had I been paying myself I’d have been very annoyed.
A truly awful dining experience, the food was utterly appalling, shame as the staff were very nice and helpful.
The room was very clean and lovely, but you cannot control the heating so the pipes are roasting hot.
Turned off at 10pm thanks god, then back on even hotter at 0430 !!
Called reception, message says all staff too busy !! No reply.
Overall this is chronically over priced, and an appalling place to stay, you would be way better off at a chain hotel for amenities and a good night sleep.
Very disappointing, easily the worst hotel experience I’ve had in years.
A truly hideous night.
Up 2 hours earlier than needed just to get out of the place. The hotel had saved one more treat for me though, some incredibly rude guy on breakfast greeting me with “room number” in a gruff voice.
I could not wait to get out of the place
With my company I average about 18 nights a month in hotels. This was easily the worst overall experience I can remember. Never again, I’ve told my business to remove from its approved list.
Avoid at all costs.
There are way better places nearby who will not treat you as an inconvenience.
Horrendous.
We were disappointed with the service today. We ordered drinks and two portions of chips with garlic bread. Over 35 minutes later no food had arrived so we asked at the bar. We were told “they will be ready when they’re ready” and she hurried away. We decided to finish our drinks and leave at this point. Another member of staff came by and we queried again. This person said she would check on them and it turned out they had misplaced the order! Around 40 minutes of waiting and the garlic bread was cold. Real shame as the food is usually of good quality. Luckily the second staff member apologised for the wait and we were in no rush
After getting the little steam train into Welshpool we walked from the station in search of lunch! Popped into the Royal Oak just as they started to serve lunch, all the staff were really friendly and very welcoming. Food was good, classic pub lunch so not alot to go wrong! Quite expensive for 2 adult mains but the 2 kids ate Free so worked out really well. Would happily go back
Beautiful, charming old hotel with very friendly staff, comfortable beds, and delicious meals.
Thank you so much for having us! We'd love to stay with you again!
Only been a handful of times and the staff are amazing. Food and drinks are of high quality and the place is always sparkling clean. Definitely recommend
Perfect for our anniversary. Old Hotel but quite nice. Food brilliant. We really enjoyed our visit.bed comfortable.
Pretty nice place, in the middle of nowhere in northern Wales. Easy to find from Welshpool railway station (the village as only one main road), located in the heart of the village itself. Ground floor with bar and restaurant. Rooms are very small, I was not able to walk around the bed. Bathroom was ok, and as per the whole room, very very clean! No air conditioning, so in case hot summer night, just a ventilator is available. Sometimes noise from the road can disturb. But at the end, is a nice place for a short stay.
Laura and her team are a testament to the hotel. Large family wedding on 12th August with many guests staying. Every single detail was planned to precision, we were always greeted with a smile and our day was so special. We wanted a relaxed vibe to our wedding and that's exactly what we got. OUTSTANDING.
